Street Painting

When I began street painting decades ago,  I noticed that people copied someone else's photo or painting, and I wondered how I could make my work uniquely my own.  I decided to "collage" an image, fitting my own images into a pre-existing work by someone else.  Because I love to draw horses, I began by adding "the horse that Caravaggio forgot to include". Eventually I started wanting to expand beyond the horse theme. I would pick a favorite work of art that I would love to spend time with, and then I would look for something of my own to add from any imagery that was lurking around my vision at the time. Then I would ask myself what my new collaged image was all about.  This became an interesting way of turning something that began as a lark, into something that for me was more profound.
